Les Pierres Dorées

Les Pierres Dorées - The Golden Stones
Little Beaujolais Tuscany
The Pierres Dorées are located about 30 km north of Lyon. They illuminate the south-ouest part of Beaujolais with their village made with ochre-yellow rocks and their flourishing agriculture.

Between Gamay and Chardonnay.
Beaujolais rhymes with Gamay. This traditional grape variety covers 98% of the territory and opens up under a fresh climate and on clay-silicious soils that are not very fertile.
Cedric Vincent’s grand-father, André Guillard, was one of the first to decide to cultivate Chardonnay in Beaujolais in the 70’s. He particularly liked this grape variety typical from Burgundy and was convinced it would perfectly adapt in his region.
Cedric Vincent participated to maintain a chardonnay vine when he was 4. This experience was determining in his choices. Today, Beaujolais Blanc represents 60% of his production.

An encouraging study.
In 2015 Inter-Beaujolais decided to carry out a study to know the composition of the soils and subsoils of the region. Cédric Vincent made 3 of his parcels available to contribue to it.
The geologists concluded that the Pierres Dorées’ subsoils are composed by clay in surface and by chalky in depth.

An adapted cultivation.
Chardonnay is a sensitive grape variety that particularly likes chalky soils permitting the retention of water.
Cédric Vincent had decided to turf his lines to encourage the water competition between the grass and the vines. Thanks to this method, he reduces the yields and obtains smaller grappes that are more resistant to diseases.
